Steve Was born in the mountains of western Arkansas in 1959. From infancy he traveled with his family to the Rocky Mountain states to work in the timber business and the Pacific Northwest to work in the fruit orchards. The changing landscape on these long trips provided a natural backdrop to develop a passion for both art and travel. He states, "I can not remember a time when I did not create art of one type or another". Steve briefly studied art in college before developing an interest in psychology, eventally becoming a licensed psychotherapist. He practiced full time for 14 years often using art thearapy with patients ranging from small children to geriatrics.
In 2001, demand for his art allowed him to begin painting full time."
His unique backgroud has allowed him to develop a strong, loose style that embraces his love of light, energy and emotion. Steve states, "I choose not to reproduce reality, instead striving for an interpreation of the subject using spontaneous strokes of bold color and layers of thick rich paint working with both brush and pallet knife. I want to capture the emotion of the moment. My art is inspired by the world around me and always dances on the borderling of abstraction and expressionism".
